natural neutrals: exploring undertones

do you appreciate the fluorescent shades emerging during spring's awakening, but gravitate towards the neutrals in your closet? you're just like me. grey is my go to. my love for neutral colors led me to explore how to achieve those colors with natural dyes.

here is a compliation of my discoveries. I call these colors "almost browns" and "almost blacks". at first glance, they appear to be the typical tan, cream or grey, but they actually contain a huge spectrum of colors in their undertones. depending on the surrounding colors, they may shift in tone to purple, red or orange. plant dyes are living color, so they react to what's around them.

the next time you choose a camel colored cardigan, reflect on its natural counterpart.
