spruce cones –
Taylor & I collected these spruce cones in Lenox this fall. We are lucky to work somewhere with impeccably kept gardens and endless trees. While simmering these cones, sap was also extracted (and got all over my dye pot, oops!). They smelled delicious. To achieve a deeper orange-red shade, (based off the insides of the cones), I increased the simmer time, but was not able to push the dye bath. If I were to redo this extraction, I would experiment with modifying the pH.
