hand dyed using hemp and home grown cabbage, producing light greens to soft blue-greens

about the dye plant -
hemp & cabbage –
Although the hemp leaves are a rich dark green, the dye extracted is a much more unexpected shade of green. I used much more plant matter than usual while making this bath because I was interested in obtaining a powerful shade. Nature, of course, has it's own agenda, which is sometimes (most times) even better than I could have planned.
This summer I decided to try my hand at growing cabbage, as it's incredibly important to me that the majority of the dye materials I use come from my garden. The cabbage flourished and I was able to do lots of color experiments. The shades of green are limitless when mixing cabbage (traditionally a blue tone) with yellow-producing plants.
